Mahi Wardens – NSW

DSC_5985Mahi Wardens perform a variety of tasks depending on their capabilities. We understand that as volunteers their time is precious and we are flexible around their availability. Some are available every week for our hotspot targeting others can only attend big events or hui. Both are valued members of our team and we encourage everyone to take part.

Here is a list of the duties they may perform.

  • Patrols of local hotspots to provide a sobering presence to our rangatahi and affo
  • rd them the opportunity to talk to an impartial person
  • Liaise with police and juvenile justice officials who may be dealing with Māori
  • Assist in running outreach programs for rangatahi and kaumatua.
  • Provide First Aid at hui, events and festivals
  • Assist with management of stallholders at events
  • Managing the front gate at events and assisting with directions
  • Recording and Reporting incidents
  • Providing assistance to our Kaumatua who may have mobility issues
  • Promoting Māori Wardens in a positive manner
  • Other duties as requested by the Kaumatua Council

Required qualifications

  •  Must be willing to learn Tikanga Māori and work under its guidance
  • Must pass a Working with Children Check
  • Must not have any or pending fraud convictions

Desired Qualifications

  • Be able to communicate with people from all backgrounds
  • Ability to record incidents and events in a notebook
  • Familiar with Te Reo
  • First Aid Qualified
  • Traffic Control Qualifications
  • Security Licence
