Our Awhi Wardens are here to support you during times of crisis, hardship or grief. They will lend an ear when you need someone to talk to, help you find the resources you need to get through and support your whanau during sensitive times.
Awhi Wardens perform a variety of tasks depending on their capabilities and qualifications. They are all volunteers their free given time is precious.
Here are some of the things our Awhi Wardens may do:
- Attend Youth conferencing and court matters with whānau
- Assist our whānau disadvantaged through hardship or illness by connecting them with the appropriate services.
- Offer Guidance to Whānau with sensitive matters
- Assist at Hui, festival and events
- Connect with our Kaumatua and Rangatahi.
- Support and liaise with community organisations and service providers
Are you interested in becoming an Awhi Warden?
We have some basic requirements when it comes to our wardens. They need to have a heart for Maori, and be of good character (no fraud convictions & ok to work with kids).
Requirements
- Must be willing to learn Tikanga Māori and work under its guidance
- Must pass a Working with Children Check
- Must not have any or pending fraud convictions
- Be able to communicate with people from all backgrounds
- Ability to record incidents and events in a notebook
- Familiar with Te Reo
- First Aid Qualified
- Traffic Control Qualifications
- Security Licence
- Counselling Experience
- Experience in Social Work
